Mentoring & Professional Development

Professional development plays a critical role in the growth of academic careers. The Dean of Faculty encourages all faculty members to engage in opportunities that drive collaboration and growth, and facilitates learning.

Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning

Established in 2004, with major gifts from Gordon Russell ’55 and R. Stephen Cheheyl ’67, Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL) facilitates professional development for all of Dartmouth's teachers and cultivates meaningful conversations about how people learn. Several year-round events and resources are offered by the Center such as, conferences, fellowships, workshops, peer mentoring, and new faculty orientation.

National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity

Dartmouth College is an Institutional Member of the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) providing access to a community of over 40,000 graduate students, post-docs, and faculty members who are dedicated to supporting professors in making successful transitions throughout their careers.

Faculty Lunches

All regular, visiting, and emeritus faculty members are invited to interact at a weekly lunch with other Dartmouth faculty members across departments, divisions, and schools. Lunches are held during fall, winter, and spring terms. Contact your associate dean for more information.
