Directed by Wim Wenders, this Oscar-nominated Japanese drama gently excavates the simple joys and lurking shadows in the life of a toilet cleaner.

Acclaimed Japanese actor Koji Yakusho is Hirayama, content with his life as a toilet cleaner in Tokyo. His is a calm, quiet existence. Every day, he wakes up at the same time, gets ready the same way, and works the same way. Outside of his structured routine he cherishes music on cassette tapes, books and taking photos of trees. Hirayama's life and mind are full of shadows, despite the sunlight he keeps reaching for. Through unexpected encounters, he reflects on finding beauty in the world. Master filmmaker Wenders crafts a work of fiction with the feel of a documentary as an ode to his beloved Japan.
