Literary Translators Convene at Dartmouth

The Comparative Literature Program celebrated the work of local literary translators—a fitting event in light of the program's new minor in translation studies.

On Wednesday, Feb. 15, the Comparative Literature Program celebrated the work of local literary translators, including Dartmouth faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and Upper Valley residents, in the Treasury Room of Dartmouth Library—a fitting event in light of the program's new minor in translation studies

"The full room made clear the wish to build a community around this art, which can help anchor many underrepresented languages on our campus, including Vietnamese, Ukrainian, and Ladin," says Associate Professor of German Studies Yuliya Komska, chair of the Comparative Literature Program.

An interdisciplinary area within the humanities, the Comparative Literature Program's new minor in translation studies incorporates examination of the theory of translation and its history alongside the practice of translating one language to another.
